Cardiovascular & Metabolic Health.

The number matters. So does the reason behind it.

High cholesterol and high blood pressure are important cardiovascular risk factors.

They should be taken seriously.

But identifying an abnormal number and understanding the wider metabolic picture are not quite the same thing.

The Sona Method looks at cholesterol and blood pressure in the context of the person who has them: metabolic health, blood-sugar regulation, diet, body composition, sleep, stress physiology, activity, family history, medications, and other relevant health factors.

The aim is not to dismiss the number. It is to understand the context around it.

CHOLESTEROL

A cholesterol result is part of a larger picture.

Cholesterol plays essential roles in the body, but abnormal lipid levels can contribute to cardiovascular risk.

Interpretation should take account of the wider clinical picture rather than treating one result in isolation.

Depending on the individual, relevant factors may include the overall lipid profile, blood-sugar regulation, insulin resistance, thyroid function, diet, weight and body composition, activity, alcohol intake, smoking, medications, family history, and existing cardiovascular risk.

One laboratory result does not tell the whole story.

BLOOD PRESSURE

High blood pressure deserves proper investigation.

Blood pressure can vary, but persistently elevated blood pressure matters because it increases cardiovascular risk over time.

The first priority is appropriate measurement, medical assessment, and treatment where needed.

Alongside this, it can be useful to examine factors that may influence blood-pressure regulation, including weight, diet, sodium intake, physical activity, sleep, stress, metabolic health, medications, and other relevant medical factors.

Understanding contributing factors does not make treatment less important. It makes the picture more complete.

METABOLIC HEALTH

Cholesterol and blood pressure often have company.

Elevated cholesterol or blood pressure may occur alongside changes in blood sugar, insulin resistance, increased waist circumference, fatty liver, poor sleep, or other features of metabolic dysfunction.

Looking at these findings together can be more useful than approaching each one as an entirely separate problem.

The Sona Method examines the relationships between them and identifies which modifiable factors are most relevant to the individual.

The objective is to understand the pattern, not chase isolated numbers.

A PERSONALISED STRATEGY

Not everyone needs the same intervention.

Generic advice to eat better, lose weight, and exercise more may be broadly sensible, but it does not tell an individual what matters most in their particular case.

Assessment considers current diet, activity, sleep, metabolic health, medical history, medications, family history, previous attempts at change, and practical circumstances.

From there, priorities can be identified and addressed systematically.

WORKING ALONGSIDE MEDICAL CARE

Lifestyle and medical treatment are not opponents.

The Sona Method does not replace GP or specialist cardiovascular care.

Prescribed blood-pressure or cholesterol-lowering medication should not be stopped or altered without discussion with the clinician responsible for prescribing it.

Where medication is indicated, lifestyle and metabolic work can take place alongside it.

The goal is not to avoid medicine. It is to improve health.
