The Sona Method

The Science of Getting Better.

Children's Health
Digestive, Skin & Immune Problems.

When you know your child isn't quite themselves.

Sometimes there is a clear diagnosis.

Sometimes there is simply a child who is tired, uncomfortable, struggling with their digestion, reacting to foods, experiencing recurrent skin problems, sleeping poorly, or not thriving as you would expect.

Parents often notice the pattern before anyone else does.

The Sona Method looks at the whole child rather than treating each symptom as an unrelated problem.

The question is not only "What symptom does your child have?" but "What might be contributing to the pattern?"

THE WHOLE CHILD

Children's symptoms do not occur in isolation.

Digestion, nutrition, immune function, sleep, skin, energy, growth, mood, and behaviour can influence one another.

A child with eczema may also have digestive symptoms. A child with recurrent abdominal discomfort may be tired or sleeping poorly. Food restriction can affect nutritional intake. Recurrent illness can affect energy and everyday life.

Looking at these things together can reveal information that is easily missed when each symptom is considered separately.

Sometimes the pattern matters as much as the individual symptom.

WHAT SONA SEES

From digestive problems to complex health concerns.

Children seen in the practice may present with digestive problems, constipation, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, food reactions, eczema and other skin conditions, fatigue, recurrent illness, nutritional concerns, sleep difficulties, or several symptoms occurring together.

Some already have a diagnosis. Others have undergone investigations but their parents still feel that something has not been fully explained.

The approach depends on the individual child rather than a standard children's health protocol.

FOOD & NUTRITION

A child's diet should not become unnecessarily small.

When foods appear to trigger symptoms, removing them can seem like the obvious solution.

Sometimes temporary dietary changes are appropriate. But repeatedly eliminating foods without understanding the wider problem can leave a child with an increasingly restricted diet.

In growing children, nutritional adequacy matters.

Where food restriction is necessary, the aim is to keep it purposeful and consider both symptom management and nutritional needs.

Removing a food is not the same thing as understanding why it became a problem.

INVESTIGATION

Testing should answer a question.

Assessment begins with the child's history, symptoms, diet, development, previous illnesses, medications, existing diagnoses, investigations, and treatments.

Where further investigation is appropriate, it should be selected because it can help answer a specific clinical question.

More testing is not automatically better testing.

The purpose is to make sense of the child, not accumulate test results.

WORKING ALONGSIDE YOUR CHILD'S MEDICAL CARE

Good care is collaborative.

The Sona Method does not replace a child's GP, paediatrician, emergency care, or other appropriate medical treatment.

Children with symptoms requiring medical investigation or specialist care should receive it.

Sona's role is complementary: looking at the wider health picture and exploring factors that may be relevant to persistent or interconnected symptoms. Learn more about The Sona Method or explore functional medicine in London.

CHILDREN'S HEALTH ON HARLEY STREET, LONDON

For children whose health picture needs a wider look.

Sona works with children and families from her practice on Harley Street in London, as well as internationally.

The Sona Method may be particularly appropriate when symptoms have persisted, several body systems appear to be involved, dietary restriction is increasing, or a child has received appropriate medical care but the wider pattern remains unclear.

This may include overlapping digestive problems, skin conditions, or autoimmune and inflammatory symptoms, approached within the wider framework of functional medicine.

A child is more than a collection of symptoms.
